Biography
Marcos Alvarado, born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, is a contemporary painter, sculptor, and draftsman currently based in Phoenix, Arizona. He is best known for his surreal figurative drawings that incorporate alchemical and spiritual symbolism, using ink, colored pencil, charcoal, and acrylic on paper. His multidisciplinary practice also includes spray paint and resin casting, applied across paper, canvas, and wood.
Alvarado’s work explores themes of cultural identity, spirituality, and transformation through a symbolic visual language. Drawing influence from Old Master painting and contemporary surrealism, his compositions often feature symmetrical arrangements and recurring symbols such as suns, moons, skulls, and natural elements.
